Holmfirth Pride brings the town alive as more than 8,000 people join the party

Holmfirth really was the place to be on Saturday 25 July 2026 as more than 8,000 people poured into the town for Holmfirth Pride.

The sun was shining, the streets were packed and there was a brilliant atmosphere right across the town as people came together for a day of music, dancing, colour, laughter and, most importantly, celebrating being yourself.

This was the second Holmfirth Pride which was delivered by a group of local volunteers.  Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, and judging by the turnout, it’s safe to say it has quickly become a firm favourite in the local calendar!

The theme for this year was “Love Out Loud”, and that pretty much summed up the day.

There were performances, drag, live music, dancing and plenty going on for families, with people travelling from across the area to join in.

But while there was plenty of partying, there was also a strong message running through the whole day – that Holmfirth is a place where people should feel welcome, safe and free to be themselves.

And that sense of community was one of the things people seemed to love most.

The event has its roots in a determination to respond positively to hate and discrimination, bringing people together rather than allowing negativity to define the town. After the success of last year’s Pride, this year’s huge turnout showed just how strongly that message has been embraced.

More than 8,000 people is an incredible number for a community-led event, and the feedback from those who attended has been fantastic.

From the colourful crowds and brilliant performances to the friendly atmosphere around the town, there was a real feeling that Holmfirth had pulled together and put on something special.

And perhaps that’s what made the day so memorable.

It wasn’t just about Pride flags, glitter and a party – although there was certainly plenty of all three! It was about friends, families, neighbours and visitors enjoying themselves together and showing that there is plenty of room for everyone in Holmfirth.

The huge turnout was also a welcome boost for Holmfirth’s local businesses, many of which have been dealing with the challenges of ongoing roadworks and disruption in and around the town. Cafes, pubs, restaurants and independent shops had the chance to benefit from the extra footfall – any many visitors who didn’t have time to visit some businesses said they loved the town and would be back – another reminder of how important big community events can be in bringing people into the town and supporting the local economy.

Social media has been full of photos and positive comments from the day, with people sharing their favourite moments and praising the atmosphere.

One of the strongest messages to come out of Holmfirth Pride has been the idea that everybody belongs – and with thousands of people turning up to celebrate that message, it certainly looked like the town was speaking with one voice.

Thanks to everyone involved in making Holmfirth Pride happen – the organisers, volunteers, performers, businesses, community groups and everyone who came along and helped make the town buzz.
